New AskFRED is still a fairly new platform, having only been around for a few months, compared to 20 years on the Old AskFRED. As such, there are still likely to be issues where New FRED doesn't perform exactly the same as Old FRED.

In order to try and minimize the risk of these types of issues cropping up the day of your event, causing unnecessary delays and issues, we strongly recommend that you test your FencingTime or Engarde exports a few days beforehand. This gives you a few days to resolve any issues that you might discover, and a few days to reach out to support for help with these resolutions.

Testing Your Files

The process of testing is fairly straightforward - click on the download link to obtain a current version of your tournament. If you are using FencingTime, click on the "New AskFRED tournament" button and use the file you just downloaded to create a new tournament.

If your tournament successfully opens - congrats! No issues! Simply click "File -> Close Tournament" and click "No" when asked to save. This will reset FencingTime to where you started, and you can do this process again when you are ready to run the tournament. This will not guarantee that new issues don't creep in during the intervening time, but it helps to minimize this possibility. You can repeat this process again days later to make sure there are no issues still, and if there are, you can always use the previously downloaded files as a starting point instead of starting from scratch.

If your tournament does NOT successfully open, please double check your tournament's AskFRED page to make sure there aren't any displayed issues. If there are, try to resolve them and then attempt this process again. If you don't see anything, please reach out to support to ask for help! If you've done this with a few days of padding before your event begins, there should be plenty of time to resolve any issues that you might see.
