When creating or editing your Tournament, you might notice a "Host Club" field. It looks roughly like this:
This field does three major things:
It links the tournament to your club in a clear way. Previously, this was not possible, with the "Venue" option being the closest option. This is helpful to fencers, because some tournaments' names won't make it clear who "owns" the tournament, and the venue is not the club itself due to space limitations. By making that clear, fencers can better understand who is running the event. For inexperienced fencers or parents, this is very helpful.
It helps tournament discoverability. AskFRED now provides public pages for clubs, which shows a club's upcoming events all in one spot. When properly attributed, it makes it easier for students and their parents to see their clubs' upcoming events.
It impacts our upcoming Club Manager functionality. This is coming soon at the moment, but suffice it to say that linking clubs to tournaments will make certain things easier moving into the future. If you're a power user who runs many tournaments a year, we definitely recommend doing this.
FAQ
How is this different from the "Restrict Registrations To Club" on an Event?
If you set the "Restrict Registrations To Club" on an Event, only fencers who are affiliated that selected club can register for that Event. The "Host Club" field does not impact functionality in this way, it is largely for display-only and marketing purposes.
What do I do if I see duplicate club records in the search box?
Reach out to support to resolve this. Duplicate clubs happen sometimes. This usually occurs when someone creates a new club in FencingTime and uploads it with results, or uses a very old club from their very old FencingTime database.
What do I do if I don't see my club in the search box?
Reach out to support. We can help resolve the issue, or create a new record as appropriate.
